the deputy steps down (part4)
I spent a lot of overtime scratching the old forecasting model and finding and developing a new one.I had two staff working with me,Gina was a computer whiz and Ron caught on fairly quickly. They spent a lot of time in the computer room.Gina left the civil service as she thought she wasn't appreciated enough. She started a large insurance brokerage chain called Rowlands-Mcfarlane.She ,like me ,was impressed with the consistently phenomenonly low error rates of the new model.
After the chairs had been moved around I was made acting deputy minister for three months. They picked me.The other deputy was still there and in a foul mood. They gave me Christine as an assistant for three months. She knew lots of stuff that I did not.I worked downstairs in my usual office until Christine came to get me.She was with me all the time and we did overtime together. She was on the line too;she seemed to want it to work. She told me that she had feedback that we were doing well.I had lots of reports to look over and give memos on.I had only a few meetings to go to;the other deputy went to most of them but not all.I still had a lot of work related to the forecasting models also.In the second month Christine came to see me and tell me that something had changed and it was a good sign.I had been given an executive assistant. His name was Richard Stirsberg, the son of Peter Stirsberg who worked at CJOH with Max Keeping.Christine and I celebrated;I think she felt that she might get a promotion.
I told Christine to tell Richard nicely not to expect much work for the first month because it was crucial.Christine told me that I was to expect a letter on the third month(or by Christmas). We both thought now it was going to be good and of course I would give her a promotion.Around December 21 she came over to the house at about 8:00 p.m. and she told there will be no letter. And so now the deputy steps down.I thought now everybody in the branch would hate me ;Christine corrected me everybody in the department will hate us now. contact twitupdale(twitter) for business consulting
