Bob's got a job
I bought my house on Ivy Crescent and started to spend more time improving it.As I had mentioned in an earlier blog, Bob Rabinovitz was my neighbour. He started to come out more and more when I was outside.Bob ,I believe had joined the Secretaty of State as an Assistant Deputy Minister and got promoted to Deputy Minister. He spoke their lingo. So he had been deputy for some time when we first met on Ivy Crescent. He was trying to get me to fix the ripple in my outside wall facing his house. The wall was made of brick and the joyce had weakened. If I took the loose brick out, the joyce would be exposed and the whole side would likely give in.This would be too costly and so I simply put some mortar on the loose brick. This was a quick and dirty fix because I couldn't afford to fix the one or two joyces and redo my entire wall. When he saw what I did he told me this made both of our places look not as good as they could be.Maybe Bob wanted an appraisal of $500,000 on his place but I was not replacing my entire wall.
The word was out now that Bob got cut for passing secrets to the other political party(the one in power) and they caught him.Bob was now looking for a job.I never mentioned it but he asked me one day if I had heard and I did.He told me that he had a dilemma now;he would speak to me because I had been in a lot of tough spots and he knew it.I said go ahead and tell me.He had taken an interview with Seagrams in Montreal and had done well but no final word.On the other hand he had calls every day from the civil service offering him jobs at a lower level such as director-general and even director. He was feeling the pressure and wanted to call Seagrams to see if he had the job as Vice President.I told him if you push too hard they will know you are under pressure.I advised him to give it a week and get away to the cottage and don't answer the telephone. Then go to Montreal in person and don't phone in and say now you want to know how you did .You know what. Bob did just as I told him and got the job in Montreal. He knows and I do that when you are under pressure you often make the wrong move but Bob got the job he wanted and I am happy for him.
