the Beechwood I.G.A
The jewel of the NewEdinburgh downtown was the Beechwood I.G.A.Here was where all the people of Rockcliife and New Edinburgh shopped.People shopped here in suits and nice dresses.Always aware that others were watching them.It was a short walk for Edwin Burkes to come over to the I.G.A and he was seen there .He would come often with his old Studebaker or Rambler.The I.G.A was always decorated and very clean but it's prices were a little high.Most of the people that shopped there didn't care about prices.
I saw Keith Morrison in there twice.The first time I saw him;he looked at me and darted down another aisle.The second time we were in a wide open space and he was about 50 feet away from me.I looked at him and was going to say hello when I saw his mouth drop open and he looked away.I realized that he strangely didn't want to talk to me.I didn't know why.Keith ,as you know,was married to Suzanne Perry who was executive assistant to Pierre Trudeau.Keith was also father to Chandler(yes Chandler on Friends).Of course Chandler's real name is Matthew Perry;he took his mother's name ,not his father's.As I said Keith did not say a word to me.Keith worked at the time for CJOH and went on to work for ABC and now works for American P.B.S
But the real treat was seeing Margaret Trudeau shopping .I saw her about five times in the I.G.A She would drive up in a black limousine and ran into the store.When Margaret came in the whole stopped shopping to watch her.She grabbed a cart and ran around the store.She usually only needed six or seven things.She would try to get in line like the rest of us;but she is quite impatient.She ended up every time telling the cashier to calculate the total and deliver it.Then she would run back to the limousine that was waiting for her.After all she could have sent someone to get it ;at least she tried to shop at our famous Beechwood I.G.A
