investigative reporting at it's worst
Television reporting since the 1950s has put more emphasis on investigative reporting with it's own research staffs.Television has turned up some stories that others did not know about.Watergate is one example and there are a few scandals that television learned about by upturning stones. This is not the case in Canada. Our television reporters are much less educated than the American or British media.
Peter Mansbridge, for example, was a radio operator in Timmins before getting into television.Lisa Laflamme has a high school education in Kitchener. There are no lawyers like Tom Brokaw of N.B.C nor George Stefanoupolis( with a Rhodes Scholarship) of A.BC. Television. We have Jeff Hutchison of Canada A.M. instead.Jeff provides a jocular yet cutting view on news events. These announcers do little research and get little research. They largely read the news that is given to them in my opinion.
However I am not exactly an uninformed blogger on this matter.I have worked with a few of the Canadian media.I worked with Bob McEwen for a summer at Industry, Trade and Commerce. And I worked with Amanda Lang for a summer at C.R.T.C.I spent three months with Moses Znaimer working on a hearing on pay television.I dated Jennifer Valentine of City TV,and Dina Pugliese's (City TV) mother. But the person I spent most time with by far is Bob Rabinovitz (former president of the C.B.C).Bob was my peer at the department of Communications and he was my neighbour in Rockcliffe (the best part of Ottawa).
I know these members of the Canadian media and it is hard to believe that they took investigative reporting to it's worst. They talked about the millions and ignored the billions.
