what's the connection?
When I was in the federal civil service we all got disability insurance as part of our collective agreement. Our insurance carrier was Sun Life.It was determined that when I was let go from the civil service that I suffered a mini nervous breakdown. After all the secretaries switched my report with that od my boss. They said that I wrote his report and viceversa. This was quite upsetting.
I appealed to Sun Life to make a payment because I was covered under the terms of the policy. It took several months but they finally agreed.I was paid from when I was in my last month on the job until May 1990.Then they surprisingly stopped payments.
I engaged a lawyer from Kitchener and we threatened court action.Sun Life offered to settle and I met Sun Life ,in London,in August 1997.They made a settlement that I signed and they made the first payment as a show of good faith. Then they reneged and refused to make regular payments.Sun Life made a new offer in 2000 of $250,750 and I refused to sign this one because of the time difference and it didn't change much from the earlier offer. In June 2005 they made another offer after repeated visits by me to their Toronto office. This offer was changed to $255,500 and was their last offer.Because their senior counsel had used unethical practices to get one of my legal actions dismissed I was forced to settle and take their offers. Finally I agreed to accept their offer and sent them a pile of emails telling them so and a fax.Now they refuse to meet the terms of their settlement offer for the second time. .
