Chorus Aviation steps out
Chorus Aviation was in the past limited to the role of a regional carrier. But gradually it developed a few new wrinkles. It is trying seemingly to develop areas where it has a little more control over the operation. This week in that vein it has signed a Letter of Intent(LOI) with a company called GA Telesis to form a joint venture to provide supply chain solutions. This sounds very vague but there will be a definitive agreement in Q1 of 2014.It will involve Dash-8s and Q400s.Chorus is the world's largest operator of Dash-8s.This can be used as a means of getting more revenue for their maintenance operation in Halifax. This is not likely to be a large revenue producer.
This week Air Canada announced a new agreement with Air Georgian;this is one of four regional airlines with a capacity purchase agreement with Air Canada. It has four centres to operate from including Toronto,Montreal,Halifax and Calgary. It has transborder as well as domestic operations with 350,000 passengers a year. Also it operates (for revenue) corporate jets from Toronto. This could be a very god fit with Chorus and would save Chorus from asking Air Canada for new routes. However would Air Canada have a vote on any potential merger once the Chorus investment got beyond 25% for example.
